L’elisir d’amore

Octobre 23 at 21:00 CEST

Stingray Brava is delighted to broadcast the comic opera L'elisir d'amore (The Elixir of Love, 1832) by Gaetano Donizetti (1797-1848) for the first time. Mexican operatic tenor Rolando Villazón shines as Nemorino, while also doubling as the director of this knee-slapping opera full of love, booze, and undiluted quackery!

Starring character Nemorino tries to win his beloved Adina's heart using a love elixir he bought from Doctor Dulcamara. However, the bottle is actually filled with wine! This results in a series of awkward situations and hilarious misunderstandings. Will Nemorino manage to put a spoke in the wheel of Adina's approaching wedding to Sergeant Belcore?

L’elisir d’amore was not merely one of Donizetti's most-performed operas between 1838 and 1848, it was the most-performed opera in the world! Nemorino's aria “Una fortima lagrima” is a staple of operatic repertoires.

With Rolando Villazón directing and playing the title role, the world rushed for tickets to the Baden-Baden 2012 Pentecost-holiday opera. Following his directorial debut in 2011 (Werther, Lyon) the Mexican tenor went a step further, staging Gaetano Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore and directing himself in the role of Nemorino.
